Report A Theft
It is a sad fact that most of us will be the victims of theft at some point in our life. Thankfully, the National Asset Register provides you key proof of owenership data to assist both the police with their investigation (and possible return), but to also allow you to effectively make a valid insurance claim.
If you have been the victim of theft it is important that you contact and file a police report as soon as possible. Quick action maximises the chances of possibly getting your goods back and is often a key requirement your insurance company may ask about if you need to file a claim. So take a detailed account of what happened, dates, times, and items you believe you have lost and then report this as fully as you can to your local authorities.
How the National Asset Register can help.
If you have registered your assets in the National Asset registry and applied DotGuard asset identification labels to your assets, then you have already taken two vital steps in protecting yourself if any of your assets are stolen and potentially aiding in thier retrieval. We recommend that you undertake the following activities if an item has been stolen.
1) Login to your asset management system and print out details of the asset stolen.
2) Update the asset status code to stolen so we can be on the lookout if police or anybody else contacts us reporting an asset with your National Asset register PIN code.
3) Use the details printed to make a police report providing them with as much asset data as possible.
4) Contact your insurance agent or insurance company and start your claim. Again your asset details here will be very valuable and make the claims process far easier.
5) Ensure your contact details are up to date in the National Asset register. If we are contacted by police in relation to the finding of your asset then we will put you in direct touch to faciliate the return of your rightful property.
Report a Loss or Theft here
While not all stolen or lost assets are found, many are found by police as part of thier normal activities. Equally, many lost items are handed to police by good samaritans who find the lost item. As such, the fact that your assets are marked with your own unique PIN number improves your chance that your asset may be found, and if so, returned to you.
Again, time is of the essence in these matters and so is accurate reporting and identification of the stolen or lost item.
Please contact the National Asset Registry with any other questions or concerns you may have.
